Metamora Area Chamber of Commerce General Membership Meeting April 14, 2010 Community Insurance Center
The meeting was called to order by President, Wes Wickham at 12:30.
Members present each introduced themselves: Betsy Bartlett - Curves of Metamora, Jim Boldt - Individual member and Metamora Hadley Masonic Lodge, Phil Andreae - Phillip J. Andreae Realtors, Richard Stouffer - Metamora Historical Society, Denis McCarthy - Kohl, Harris, Attorneys, Don Harrison - Community Insurance Center, Sue Woolsy - Community Insurance Center, Beth Kurtz - Serv Pro of Lapeer, Shari Nicoloff - Metamora Foodland, Carol Morrris - Linked Hearts of Dryden, Dave Taylor - Lapeer County Commisioner, Mike Hoban - Lapeer County Republican Party, Carole Porretta - Coventry Realty, Wes Wickham - Individual Member. Minutes were not available: Treasurer's report: Treasurer's reports were approved as presented. MAYDA: The committee has decided to not reapply for a grant this year but to put on a full court press for next year. They are also still receiving scholarship applications with the deadline being this Friday. The committee has selected Betsy Bartlett, Sue Woolsy and Beth Kurtz to be the scholarship judges this year. The membership directory was discussed and it was agreed upon by all to start "putting it together" this fall. Metamora Country Days and Hot Air Balloon Festival: The committee has been meeting regularly and is now lining up entertainment, selecting the Grand Marshall, selecting shirts, crafters, food vendors etc. More volunteers are always needed. Please call either the Chamber @ 678-6222 or Dawn Garcia, Chairperson, at PNC Bank for additional information. Old Business: We talked about the Chamber Website and our newsletter and ways to promote both as aids for our Chamber Members. We will be sending out requests for members to use both venues for individual promotions/sales/specials etc. Dave Taylor gave a brief synopsis of an AP report identifying Lapeer County as one of the poorest counties in the nation. He also mentioned that suicide calls are at an all time high in the County. On the good side the County's bond rating was just upped from a A+ to AA as an indication that the County and the other government units in the County were addressing the economic downturn in a most prudent manner. He also mentioned that our County Park had over 60,000 visits last year and had worked out a plan to keep both county parks open and also the Water Park at General Squire open with help from the County Mental Health Department. Mike Hoban mentioned the annual GOP fundraiser on April 24 with Candice Miller as the keynote speaker. Carole Porretta reminded all of the Banbury Cross Funraiser on Ketucky Derby Day May 1st. Carol Morris from Linked Hearts, our new member from Dryden, described their emergency food pantry and family assistance programs. Denis McCarthy talked about the 4-County Foundation and how they assist funding local projects. The McLaren Hospital Foundation is having a golf outing fundraiser at both Devil's Ridge and Metamora Golf and Country Club in June.
Don Harrison, our host from Community Insurance Center, who supplied our meeting place and our lunch (prepared by Metamora Foodland) gave a brief background/history of CIC and explained the many discounts available to Chamber Members on insurance through their agency.
